Dear Christ the King Elementary Families,
With hearts rooted in faith and hope, and after much prayer, discernment, and extensive consultation, Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools will consolidate Christ the King Elementary into our remaining Catholic elementary schools after the completion of the 2025–2026 school year. Despite years of thoughtful efforts to preserve Christ the King Elementary, this difficult decision was made in response to realities that challenge long-term sustainability. Factors contributing to this decision include:
Alignment with our Strategic Plan - Anchored in Our Faith: We are called to be faithful stewards of our resources.
Operating costs continue to rise as the enrollment at Christ the King Elementary has remained relatively flat for nearly two decades. These costs have been absorbed across Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools, leading us to determine the appropriate number of school sites for overall operating efficiency.
Alignment with the Diocesan Pastoral Plan - Set Ablaze: Bishop DeGrood is directing all pastorates, parishes, and institutions to be more prudent and efficient stewards.
Divine Mercy Pastorate and our school system are collaborating in an effort to align pastoral and strategic plans.
Increased System Strength: Consolidation will allow us to gain efficiencies and better manage our educational programs and operating expenses. Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools is growing and continues to position itself for future growth.
As we navigate this significant transition, one thing remains unchanged: we want you in our school system. We have capacity for the current preschool and elementary students from Christ the King Elementary with room for future growth across the remaining five elementary schools. While we will miss the daily presence of Christ the King Elementary, the spirit of this community will remain. Your family and your children are a vital part of our Catholic community. Our five other elementary schools are ready to welcome you with open arms.
We extend our deep gratitude to our staff and to you, our committed families, who continuously support Christ the King Elementary and entrust your children to us. And thank you to our students whose joyful spirit, enthusiasm for learning, and growth in faith bring life and beauty to our school. It is a blessing to witness your journey, and you are the reason this community is so special. Throughout this school year, we will honor and celebrate Christ the King Elementary's legacy.
Our Admissions Department is committed to assisting Christ the King Elementary families. Every family will receive personal support in finding a new elementary home within our system. Another email will be sent by the end of the day on Friday, September 19 with important information and next steps.
Father Rutten will address the students about this news during the school Mass tomorrow, Thursday, September 18.
United in Christ, we remain one system in faith and hope,
Kyle Groos
President, Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools
